Historical Retrospective: Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the GE Edison Awards
Since its inception in 1983, the GE Edison Award competition has revealed the evolution of lighting through masterful designs by lighting professionals from around the world. Originally conceived to promote the use of the GE Precise™ MR16 light source for architectural lighting, the program has evolved into a prestigious, international competition that showcases the creative and most effective use of the newest - as well as the more traditional - lighting technologies.

The award structure has been expanded in recent years to include two new categories: Award for Sustainable Design and Award for Residential Design. The Award for Sustainable Design provides the stage for lighting designers to show the world how to provide high-quality lighting while demonstrating environmental responsibility. The Award for Residential Design was instituted to encourage the submission of creative, smaller-scale residential projects.

Every year, there are many wonderful projects that earn Awards of Merit or Awards of Excellence. GE would like to again congratulate all past award-winners. We would also like to thank everyone who has taken the time to submit entries over the past 25 years. A special note of appreciation goes to all the judges who have taken time out of their busy schedules to evaluate the projects and to provide the necessary credibility for this process.

The lighting industry is poised for significant change in the years to come. To quote Frank LaGiusa, "The GE Edison Award will continue to provide a way to honor and publicize the talents and expertise of professional lighting designers, along with the pioneering applications they develop."
